When it comes to being a parent and watching my children grow throughout these few years, I have to say that the weaning stage is without a doubt my favourite. It is such a pleasure to watch children discover the world of eating, them seeing all those beautiful colours of wholesome food, and working on their sensory skills by using their hands to feed themselves.
One way I encouraged my kids to self feed is by handing them a utensil to encourage the effort on their part. Even if I were feeding them myself, I made sure they always had a utensil by their side in case they wanted to experiment.
My children have used a number of brands/styles of utensils during their weaning stages. You can look through my reviews section on this website for details. In this post, I will focus on those from Kiddobloom. For those who have not yet heard of this brand. They sell stainless steel utensil sets that are small enough for children to use comfortably. Continue reading below to find out what I love most about these utensils, and why my children use them almost everyday.
Here are a few of my favourite features:
•You can select from a variety of fun characters that are printed on the utensil handles. They have cute frogs, a firetruck, and even a lovely princess.
•The forks and knives come with rounded tips. This is perfect for beginners.
•Although there is a little plastic in the packaging, the items come in gift boxes that are mostly eco-friendly. I was impressed, as many items I have ordered in the past arrived either completely wrapped in plastic, or covered in bubble wrap etc
•Two sizes are available for your child. Check out the utensils size guide pictured above. The smaller set is the perfect starter set for early weaning children (6m+). The larger set is great for toddlers and up. Our boys are (as I type this) ages 4 and 6, and I pack the Kiddobloom fork and spoons with their lunches on a regular basis. They’re small enough to pack with the lunches, and really easy for their small hands to grip well. Baby girl is currently age 2, and grew out of the smaller size some months ago. She now uses the same size as her brothers, and is loving them. I think what the kids enjoy most is that they are made of stainless steel, and look exactly like adult utensils, only smaller. It’s not only a sense of independance, but also a sense of inclusion into this little club we call adulthood.
Can we take a moment to discuss the packaging? When we purchase products, one thing I’ve always said in the past is that the packaging is almost as important as the product itself. I don’t want to spend money on a product to have something shipped to me wrapped with clear plastic in a standard shipping envelope. Would you agree? Presentation is everything. First impression is everything. So when I received these gorgeous boxes (see above) with the utensils packed firmly inside, I was impressed. The design you find on the utensils themselves are also printed on the box, which is great because it gives you a quick preview of what is engraved on the item.
The Kiddobloom flateware set also makes for great baby shower gifts. What better way to help a fellow child and their parent prepare for the wonderful world of weaning than with utensils of their own?
Now let’s talk about convenience. The utensils themselves are sleek in design, and fit flawlessly in our utensil drawer at home with our adult spoons, forks and knives. They are also small enough to toss into my diaper bag, or in with a lunch box. Since the tips of the utensils are rounded, there’s no fear of myself or any of our children being injured while handling them. It really is a win/win.
Overall, I have to say that I am pleased with this product, and would gladly recommended it to friends and family. Be sure to follow me on social media to see more examples of how we use our KiddoBloom tableware.
